C’era una volta sulla mia isola un fanciullo un po’ strano. Non aveva un nome, né un posto dove andare. La notte dormiva al faro e sognava il mare…
Inizia così la straordinaria avventura di un bambino che dovrà affrontare incredibili sfide per mare prima di giungere alla grande cascata… Questa è una storia sulla forza dei sogni e sulla capacità di forgiare il proprio destino.
La tradizione si nutre di continue variazioni e invenzioni intorno a un eterno se stesso. Come tutte le fiabe e tutti i miti, “Il fanciullo lontano” innesca un dispositivo che della tradizione fa interagire i principali archetipi. C’è l’eroe-bambino che infrange un divieto, quello di giungere ai confini di un mondo che tutti vogliono sferico, ma che lui ritiene piatto: la crescita come viaggio e percorso nel mondo esterno, cui segue un ritorno segnato dalla conquista di una maggiore consapevolezza. C’è la soglia del mondo magico, il guardiano, gli aiutanti e gli antagonisti, entrambi spesso apparentemente tali, c’è il Doppio (la lotta del fanciullo contro l’ombra del gemello malvagio) e c’è infine l’amuleto, reperto del mondo magico da seppellire al termine del ciclo. –Daniele Vecchio

Tradition thrives on continuous variations and inventions surrounding an eternal self. Like all fairy tales and myths, The Distant Boy triggers a mechanism that brings the primary archetypes of tradition into play. There is the child-hero who breaks a taboo—the prohibition of reaching the edge of a world that everyone believes is spherical, but which he believes is flat. Growth is presented as a journey through the outside world, followed by a return marked by the achievement of greater self-awareness. There is the threshold of the magical world, the guardian, the helpers, and the antagonists (both of whom often only appear to be so). There is the Double (the boy's struggle against the shadow of his evil twin) and, finally, the amulet—an artifact from the magical world to be buried at the end of the cycle. – Daniele Vecchio
