Natale su AmazZon

Nell’era dell’e-commerce i giorni che precedono il Natale sono caratterizzati da un grande fermento. Già dal Black Friday ci sono consumatori in lotta per accaparrarsi il regalo più conveniente, le città sono invase da corrieri che consegnano pacchi a destra e manca, centinaia di regali vengono ordinati a colpi di click ogni minuto. A casa di Babbo Natale, invece, arrivano poche letterine… E cosa succederebbe se anche Babbo Natale aprisse un suo profilo social? In pochi giorni il buon vecchio Babbo riacquista subito grande popolarità e manda in crisi il mondo dell’e-commerce.

Gli eventi si scatenano e tra renne ballerine, super eroi e piani per eliminare Babbo Natale, ciò che resta alla fine sarà il messaggio d’amore che da sempre il Natale rappresenta.

“Non c’è epoca dell’anno più gentile e buona, per il mondo dell’industria e del commercio, che il Natale e le settimane precedenti”. Così inizia “I figli di Babbo Natale”, l’ultima delle venti novelle che compongono Marcovaldo. Siamo all’inizio degli anni Sessanta e Italo Calvino intuisce la portata deflagrante della nascente società dei consumi e ci ride su a modo suo, con leggerezza, mai censore o maestro, lascia i suoi messaggi nascosti nel testo e affidati alla sua proverbiale ironia e la novella rimane intrisa della magia del Natale.

“Natale su AmazZon” è il nostro modesto tentativo di aggiornare questa ironia ai tempi nostri, prendendoci gioco di vizi e costumi che ci riguardano tutti, come l’acquisto compulsivo a colpi di click. In fondo, riprendendo Calvino, potremmo dire che “non c’è epoca dell’anno più gentile e più buona, per il mondo dell’e-commerce, che il Natale e le settimane che lo precedono”.

Eppure l’atmosfera magica del Natale pervade tutto lo spettacolo non rinunciando alla poesia.

In the era of e-commerce, the days leading up to Christmas are characterized by great frenzy. Starting as early as Black Friday, consumers fight to snag the best deals, cities are flooded with couriers delivering packages left and right, and hundreds of gifts are ordered with the click of a button every single minute. At Santa Claus's house, however, very few letters are arriving… But what would happen if Santa opened his own social media profile? Within just a few days, good old Santa instantly regains immense popularity, throwing the entire world of e-commerce into a total crisis.

Events spin out of control, and amid dancing reindeer, superheroes, and plots to eliminate Santa Claus, what remains in the end is the message of love that Christmas has always represented.

“There is no time of year gentler and kinder to the world of industry and commerce than Christmas and the weeks preceding it.” This is how “The Children of Santa Claus” begins—the last of the twenty short stories that make up Italo Calvino's Marcovaldo. It was the beginning of the 1960s, and Calvino sensed the explosive impact of the nascent consumer society. He laughed at it in his own way, with lightness; never acting as a censor or schoolmaster, he left his messages hidden within the text, entrusted to his proverbial irony, allowing the story to remain steeped in the magic of Christmas.

“Christmas on AmazZon” is our modest attempt to update this irony for our modern times, poking fun at the vices and habits that affect us all, such as compulsive click-of-a-button shopping. Ultimately, echoing Calvino, we could say that “there is no time of year gentler and kinder to the world of e-commerce than Christmas and the weeks preceding it.”

And yet, the magical atmosphere of Christmas pervades the entire show, never losing its sense of poetry.
